The Ashland Oil & Refining
Co., which operates the big
Frontier Oil Refinery on River
Rd., Town of Tonawanda, today
submitted a high bid for the
purchase of ten acres of
Government-owned land that
adjoins the refinery.
Ashland Oil's bid of $51,340
topped two other bids for the
vacant land, which has been
owned by the Atomic Energy
Commission and used for
storage of non-radioactive
materials. The bids were made
to the General Services
Administration's regional office
in New York City, which now will
submit the offers to the GSA in
Washington for action.
A Frontier Oil Refining
executive said that if Ashland is
successful in acquiring the
property, it is expected to be
used for the construction of
additional storage tanks for
petroleum products .
Acquisition of this property, he
added, "will fill out our present
refinery-location property along
River Rd."
The ten acres adjoins the
refinery on the northeast.
Albert L. Wilson, chief of the
GSA's Real Estate Disposal
Branch in New York, told the
Buffalo Evening News by
telephone that a bid of $5100
was submitted for the property
by Maynard C. Schaus, Crosby
Bldg., Buffalo, and an offer of
$1030 was made by L. S.
Golden, New York City.
This is the second former AEC
property in the Buffalo area to
be put up for sale by the GSA in
the past two weeks. The Allan
Herschell Co. of North
Tonawanda on April 15
submitted a high bid of
$312,000 for the former AEC
plant building, adjoining the old
ACF Industries plant at Clinton
and Babcock Sts. Mr. Wilson
said he still is awaiting word
from Washington on this matter.
