Guest Column

By Dorothy Watson

Having spent the majority of my life living on Duffy Drive, I decided to go the meeting regarding the uranium in Rattlesnake Creek at Warren's. I live one-third of a mile from Rattlesnake Creek.

I was greeted at the door by none other that Chuck Swanick. He would not allow me into the meeting. Why? Because I do not live on Duffy Drive nor Brookside Terrace.

What is Swanick trying to hide? Why the secret. I told Swanick I owned a house on Duffy Drive. He still refused to allow me in. What is Swanick trying to hide?

Some of the residents of Duffy Drive and Brookside Terrace had fliers placed on their doors printed on City of Tonawanda stationery signed by Alice Roth, Mayor and Chuck Swanick, Erie County Legislator. This was a letter printed at city expense. Paid by the taxpayers.

I live one-third of a mile from Rattlesnake Creek. I could not attend. People on Brookside live 1.5 miles from Rattlesnake Creek they could attend.

What are they trying to hide, the mayor and Chuck? Why the secrecy? What are they afraid of?

Fletcher School is closer to Rattlesnake Creek than most of Brookside Terrace. Should all the parents be concerned of children attending Fletcher School. Most parents could not attend because they do not live on Duffy nor Brookside Terrace.

What are they trying to hide, the mayor and Chuck? Why the secrecy? What are they afraid of?

The high school is closet to Rattlesnake Creek than any part of Brookside Terrace. Should all the parents be concerned for children attending the high school. Most parents could not attend because they do not live on Duffy nor Brookside Terrace.

What are they trying to hide, the mayor and Chuck? Why the secrecy? What are they afraid of?

This meeting was held at Warren's Restaurant. Who paid for the use of the room? Why didn’t they hold the meeting at City Hall?

What are they trying to hide, the mayor and Chuck? Why the secrecy? What are they afraid of?

In my mind, this closed door secret meeting has left me with more questions. I certainly got no answers. No questions were answered because the meeting was secret.

What are they trying to hide, the mayor and Chuck? Why the secrecy? What are they afraid of?

The city of Tonawanda has a general environmental control board. They were not allowed to attend the meeting.

What are they trying to hide, the mayor and Chuck? Why the secrecy? What are they afraid of?

The reporter for the Buffalo News, Tom Ernst, was there. He was not allowed to attend the meeting. I would like to apologize to Tom Ernst for the actions of Mayor Roth and Legislator Swanick. What are they trying to hide, the mayor and Chuck? Why the secrecy? What are they afraid of?

I thought we had OPEN government. I was wrong again. What are they trying to hide, the mayor and Chuck? Why the secrecy? What are they afraid of?
