CREEK CONTAMINATION TO BE DISCUSSED TONIGHTTONAWANDA NEWS 06/17/99 Residents of Duffy Drive and Brookside Terrace in the City of Tonawanda will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Warren's Restaurant, 561 Main St. to discuss the uranium found in Rattlesnake Creek. Mayor Alice Roth, Erie County Legislature Chairman Charles Swanick and representatives from the Army Corps of Engineers will he available to answer questions. EDITOR'S NOTE: This notice appeared in the TONAWANDA NEWS on 6/17/99 (just hours before the infamous meeting). It is assumed that the paper was asked not to run this notice any earlier, so as to keep those others who would be interested in attending from having time to make arrangements to attend. Lt. Colonel Feierstein of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) approached me after the meeting and mentioned that they (USACE) would be willing to meet privately with the FACTS group if we so desired. I thanked him for the offer, but said no. FACTS doesn't believe in having "secret" or closed meetings. We feel if it's important enough to have a closed meeting, then it's important enough to hold an open, public meeting so that all concerned may have a chance to hear the information presented and have a chance to have their concerns heard. |
